World Book Day favourites
World book day, a modern tradition where students in schools across the nation dress up as characters in their favourite books. World Book Day is celebrated around the world, but can be on different dates in each country. Costumes don’t have to be expensive for World Book Day. Sometimes, all you need is a different tie! Here are a few popular favourites.
Harry Potter
The world wide phenomenon of Harry Potter battling it out against evil with his School chums using magic, help from school teachers and ‘sheer dumb luck’… This has remained a popular theme heightened by the movies that followed the series of books. These tie are similar that that used in the films, some of which are actual school ties used in the UK.
The Worst Witch
A character popularised by the TV Series produced by the BBC, about another young witch called Mildred Hubble who attends a magic school and has magical and disastrous adventures – remember, she’s the worst witch! Her school uniform is the standard Black and White striped school tie, exactly as below.
Matilda
Matilda is about a small girl who wills magical abilities upon herself due to her distain over her parent’s attitudes and her life experiences at school. In the movie, Matilda wears a ‘disgusting ribbon’… in the stage play, she sports the school uniform tie; Maroon with narrow white stripes.
St. Trinians
The classic St. Trinians, an old Black and White favourite of times gone by. There were a few old colour movies showing the tie as being a darker blue, but the 2007 movie shows the tie colour perfectly as shown here.
